Here is a round up of the biggest planning stories in Leamington this August.

Bridge refurb

Planning has dominated the headlines in Leamington this month, with applications approved by the council which has backed plans to refurbish the walkway along an historic bridge which connects Warwick with Leamington Spa.

Part of the path along Portobello Bridge has been fenced off after weaknesses were first uncovered in 1993.

Now, Warwickshire County Council has revealed plans to repair the damage, improving the connections between the two towns along Emscote Road.

Speed limits

In other news, eighteen roads in Sydenham are set to have new 20mph speed limits enforced.

The roads around St Fremund Way will have the reduced limit in place from 1 September.

Warwickshire County Council said the change has the support of Warwickshire Police, local councillor Will Roberts and the road safety team.

'Meadery' plans

A new business producing the ancient alcoholic drink mead is hoping to set up shop under railway arches in Leamington Spa.

Colin Paterson has applied to Warwick District Council for planning permission to change the use of a currently-vacant unit at Victoria Business Centre, Neilston Street, Leamington, into a meadery, education facility, community meeting space and ancillary bar.

It is proposed to feature a brewing and demonstration area, cool room, retail space, toilets and customer areas inside and outside the unit.

EV Chargers

£18 million is set to be invested in new EV charging infrastructure across the county, Warwickshire County Council has announced.

Funding from private investment and the Department for Transport, is being put towards at least 73 EZO rapid charge point sockets, and 2,100 Connected Kerb lower-powered charge point sockets.

Bank revamp

A bank branch in Leamington is set to undergo a significant refurbishment, with plans outlining both internal and external upgrades.

The plans centre Santander on Parade, which under the proposed works, will see a new shopfront along with changes to the internal layout of the site.
