Local cricket club celebrates £16k funding boost

A local cricket club has been given a boost this season thanks to funding from the council of over £16,000.

In September 2025 Leek Wootton Cricket Club was awarded £16,825 by Warwick District Council to replace their cricket nets.

The club received a grant through the council's Rural/Urban Capital Improvement Scheme (RUCIS), with the investment already making a difference to players and the local community.

Now fully opened and up and running the new nets are benefitting players of all ages allowing them to hone their skills ahead of competitive matches.

Tony Howe, Chairman of Leek Wotton Cricket Club commented: "The new cricket nets are amazing, and so important for the future of our club. We could not have done this without a significant RUCIS grant from Warwick District Council. Thanks so much!"

The Council led initiative set up to support locally led not-for-profit, community organisations with capital projects such as building repairs, new facilities, equipment or measures to improve energy efficiency, with successful applicants awarded grants of up to £20000 towards improvement projects.

Cllr Jonathan Chilvers, Warwick District Council's Portfolio Holder for Resources added: "It's great to see our local clubs and communities benefiting from the RUCIS scheme. New funding is available for the 2026/27 financial year, and I would like to encourage not-for-profit groups located within Warwick district to come forward with their projects as we may be able to help."
