Plans revealed to turn former Leamington homeless shelter into home
By Nadia Sayed 22nd Oct 2026
A former homeless shelter in Leamington could be converted back into a single-family home under new plans.
The application concerns William Wallsgrove House on Lillington Road, which was opened in 2018 by Warwick District Council and operated as a 24/7 direct-access homeless hostel.
The hotel provided round-the-clock accommodation, care, and support for rough sleepers in the district.
Now, the property could be developed into a single-family home..
According to the plans, no external structural alterations, extensions, demolition or changes to window and door openings are proposed as part of the application.

Minor internal changes would be carried out to adapt the layout for family living, with existing room divisions retained wherever possible.
The heritage statement states: "Minor, non-structural internal reconfigurations may be undertaken to adapt the layout back to comfortable single-family living, utilizing existing room divisions wherever possible."
The plans also comment that returning the property to a single home would restore its original domestic purpose and better reflect the area's residential character.
A separate application to build four homes in the rear garden of William Wallsgrove House was formally withdrawn last month (14 September 2026).
The proposal would have seen four three-bedroom mews-style properties built in two pairs behind the existing building, but attracted objections from residents over concerns including the impact on the conservation area, mature trees, privacy, parking and road safety.
Under the latest proposals, no external structural alterations, extensions, demolition, or changes to window and door openings are planned.
It is further stated that the change in the site's use would reduce the foot traffic and institutional activity associated with a multi-person hostel.
