Local primary school children celebrate colourful artwork inside unique mini phone box gallery

Children from a local primary school and nursery in Leamington were delighted to visit an art exhibition created by their fellow classmates.
Pupils from Clapham Terrace Primary School and Nursery from years three and four visited the exhibition in Art Box, designed by their friends in years one and six, in October.
Having chosen their favourite artworks on display, the pupils returned to school to share news of their visit and spread the word about the exhibition.
The children in Year One have been learning about animals in their habitats and the oceans of the world. They created brightly coloured, underwater collages with some of their favourite sea creatures for the exhibition.
Having studied the work of different artists who created self-portraits, the children in Year Six focussed on proportion and facial features when sketching their own portraits, carefully considering the placement and scale of each feature.
They then transferred their designs onto polystyrene blocks to create relief prints, exploring positive and negative space as they applied ink and printed their portraits onto paper. To develop their final pieces further, the children incorporated collage elements to create unique mixed-media self-portraits.
The exhibition is open 24/7, every day, and runs until late November in Art Box, Leamington's mini community art gallery in a listed telephone kiosk.
You can find Art Box at the edge of Christchurch Gardens, which is opposite the top of Parade and is known to many as "Top Park".
Art Box is owned by Royal Leamington Spa Town Council and is managed by Friends of Christchurch Gardens.
It is available, free of charge, for civic, community or school exhibitions. Contact [email protected] to enquire about availability.
