Historic character of Leamington railway station protected as large adverts come down

One of the large advertising hoardings at Leamington's Grade II listed railway station has been removed.
The removal of the advertising is part of multiple improvement efforts to maintain and restore the station's historic features.
Other efforts have included restoring the station's distinct classic doors and signs.
Since 2004, volunteers at the Society's Friends of Leamington Station have also worked closely with Chiltern to restore historic features and create and maintain the station's award-winning gardens. Their achievements include national awards for the gardens and station adoption, and most recently the 'Best Station Adoption Group' award in October 2026, presented by Chiltern's Commercial and Customer Strategy Director.
The prize was given "for their dedication and outstanding work in everything from beautiful gardening, excellent Open Heritage weekend station tours and friendly and encouraging support to myself on arts and biodiversity projects at the station".

Over several years, Chiltern Railways has invested substantially in restoring and enhancing the station's distinctive Art Deco buildings, earning a National Railway Heritage Award in 2012.
The station was also 'Highly Commended' at the 2025 National Rail Awards.
The Leamington Society team shared: "These examples show how thoughtful improvements can enhance the setting of our historic buildings.
"The future of the recently cleared site has yet to be confirmed, but this is a welcome improvement worth celebrating."
Concerns have also been raised about the two remaining large station hoardings, particularly the one overlooking the gardens.
