Leamington planning roundup: bridge to nowhere, junction works and more
By Nadia Sayed 3rd May 2026
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
'Bridge to Nowhere'
The bridge over the A46 junction at Stoneleigh is set to close on multiple dates over the summer, the county council has confirmed.
Work resumed on the over-budget and much-delayed scheme at the start of 2026, with works due to run into the summer of next year.
Warwickshire County Council has said the last few weeks have seen "great progress" made.
A46 Stoneleigh Junction redevelopment
Warwickshire County Council has released its latest update on the over-budget and much-delayed A46 Stoneleigh Junction redevelopment.
Originally due to be finished in the summer 2022, work resumed on site at the start of 2026.
The project - which is now set to cost considerably more than the £38 million originally approved - is due for completion in 2027.
Developer wins appeal
Following an appeal, plans for seven apartments and two offices in Leamington have been given the go ahead.
The plans for a three-storey extension at 54 Kenilworth Road were originally refused by Warwick District Council but have now been given the green light by a planning inspector.
The scheme will see some internal changes to the building, along with a lift, new car park layout with cycle and waste storage buildings.
Upholstery Halted
Council planners have refused an application for a house at Warwick Gates from an upholstery business.
Warwick District Council has thrown out an application for a 'certificate of lawfulness' at the home on Touchstone Road which would have recognised its joint use as a dwelling and as the base for 'MiCala Upholstery'.
Plans state the business has run there since 2017, but it now looks set to have to apply for full planning permission to change the use of the building.
