An old mortar shell has been safely removed by a bomb disposal team, after it was discovered in a garden in Leamington.

A specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in to manage the situation and dispose of the shell, which was located near Upper Holly Walk in the town today (2 May).

Initial plans included cordoning off the surrounding area and implementing an evacuation as a safety precaution.

However, these measures were subsequently called off based on advice from the EOD team.

Leamington Police have confirmed that the shell has now been safely disposed of.

Police also expressed gratitude to the public for their patience during the operation.
