The Leamington Society held its annual general meeting on 14 May in Leamington, marking a leadership transition.

Former Chairman Barbara Lynn stepped down after several years of dedicated service as both a committee member and Chair.

She is succeeded by Ignaty Dyakov-Richmond, who was elected unanimously as the Society's new Chairman.

He is joined by newly appointed Secretary Margaret Begg and Treasurer Brian Wall.

The full committee now comprises six members: Ignaty Dyakov-Richmond, Brian Wall, Gary Jones, Margaret Begg, Bruno Eurich, and Sidney Syson.

The role of Vice-Chairman remains vacant.

Membership currently stands at 363, and both new members and volunteers are warmly welcomed.

An independent review of the Society's financial accounts for the year found no areas of concern.

In his remarks, the new Chairman expressed gratitude to his predecessor: "I would like to thank Barbara Lynn for her hard work over the last few years and for keeping the Society going despite some turbulences locally, nationally, and within the Society.

"Barbara's dedication has left the committee in a strong position to carry on its work."

Before stepping down, Barbara Lynn reflected on the Society's accomplishments over the past year and highlighted upcoming developments in the town.

She pointed to significant progress in Leamington's Creative Quarter, including the near-completion of the Old Schoolhouse renovation and the transformation of the derelict Stoneleigh Arms—no longer as a pub—alongside the creation of a pocket park.

"These developments will make a significant difference to the Old Town, with more greenery and more people visiting," she said.

She also noted the transformation of the Town Hall into a cultural hub with a well-integrated rear extension. Restoration work is planned for the deteriorating yet iconic Mill Bridge, with local volunteers already contributing to cleanup efforts.

Other updates include Covent Garden Car Park, which is scheduled for demolition later this year.

The ground floor and basement will remain in use until further decisions are made.

Also, Riverside Park Development, the former Warwick District Council HQ site, is set to become a new park between Prince's Drive and Portobello Bridge.

Outline planning permission was granted in February for up to 74 new homes, with a target of net-zero carbon construction and a 40 percent affordable housing requirement.

Looking ahead, the Society will continue its tree-planting campaign and launch the Leamington Society Framework, a new initiative to guide its future activities.

Upcoming events include an "extraordinary" meeting on 2 July at 7.30pm, focusing on the future of Leamington's town centre, coinciding with the launch of a new public consultation- details are to follow soon.

Bookmarks with the full programme for the year ahead are available at the Information Centre in the Pump Rooms and the library.

The Friends of Christchurch Gardens will also host a series of summer events, including litter picks, history walks, and family-friendly biodiversity days.

Details are available via their newsletter and Facebook page.

Finally, the Leamington History Group will continue its programme of events throughout the summer for those looking to stay connected with the town's heritage.
