Portuguese café in Leamington seeks approval for alcohol sales
By Nadia Sayed 8th May 2026
A Portuguese café in Leamington has applied for a licensing application to sell alcohol throughout the week.
According to licensing records published by Warwick District Council, Douro & Co, located on Court Street in the town, has applied to sell alcohol for consumption on the premises between 10am and 8pm, Monday to Sunday.
The cafe, first opened back in August 2024 and offers a variety of Portuguese treats, including Pastel De Natas and authentic Portuguese coffee.
While Douro & Co will continue to primarily be a small café, it plans to serve alcohol as an "ancillary offering to food", according to the licence application.
Under the licence conditions, the business must operate under a Challenge 25 policy, requiring customers who appear under 25 to provide identification before purchasing alcohol. Staff will also receive training in responsible alcohol sales and a refusals log will be maintained.
Additional conditions include the installation and maintenance of CCTV, the provision of free drinking water on request, and measures to minimise noise and disruption to nearby residents.
The application states that the venue will not host loud music or events and customers will be encouraged to leave quietly in order to prevent public nuisance.
Warwick District Council's licensing register also confirms the premises must comply with all health and safety and fire safety regulations.
