A brand new Portuguese cafe and bakery has opened in Leamington Spa. 

Douro & Co celebrated its first day in business over the weekend, on Saturday (23 August).

The cafe is located on Court Street in the town and offers a variety of Portuguese treats, including Pastel De Natas and authentic Portuguese coffee.

Cafe owner Ana, originally from Portugal, moved to the United Kingdom in 2006, a year after her father relocated.

She shared with Nub News: "My dad and I both always loved Portuguese food and Portuguese coffee, and he had always wanted to open a cafe."

Unfortunately, Ana's father passed away in 2009.

However, she is now fulfilling his dream of opening a Portuguese-inspired cafe.

"We felt now was the right opportunity to do this. We found the right place because it was very difficult to find a key location in town" she said.

Ana first received the keys to the venue in June and has spent the past two months bringing the vision for the cafe to life.

She said: "It has been a challenge because there was nothing inside. It [the cafe] was empty before."

Ana expressed her pride in adding Portuguese touches to the cafe and to have now pulled it all together.

The first full day of the cafe being open, Ana said it was super busy, with customers lining up outside and four rounds of pastries being made by the early afternoon.

Douro & Co is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 3.30pm except on Wednesday when it is closed.

It is open until 4pm on weekends.
