A new gallery showcasing artistic work created by artists from the South Asian diaspora has opened in Leamington this weekend.
Runjeet Singh Gallery launched its public-facing gallery at 37 Chandos Street in the town with an opening exhibition on Friday 24 April to Sunday 26 Apri.
One of the gallery's main aims is provide a deserved platform for UK-based artists from the South Asian diaspora, alongside representing artists whose practices are informed by South Asian narratives, traditions, and cultures.
The gallery's founder, Runjeet Singh, shared: "In truth, after 26 years working in antiques and a similar length of time collecting contemporary art, this project is deeply personal.
"Coincidentally, the stars have aligned to make possible the launch of both a new gallery and a physical space. It feels like the right moment - an opportunity to create a platform for second- and third-generation South Asian diasporic artists."

Singh added: "Inspired by a number of pioneering voices, South Asian artists are becoming increasingly prominent within Britain's art conversation.
"At the same time, artists from a wide range of backgrounds are looking to the subcontinent as a source of inspiration. Growing interest from India is particularly exciting, and the rising level of institutional engagement here in the UK is equally encouraging".
Opening in Leamington, a town rich with cultural heritage positioned between London and other major UK cities, the gallery seeks to broaden the geographical focus of the contemporary art landscape and market.
By operating outside of London, the gallery also hopes to engage new audiences and collectors while 'championing artists whose work reflects the diversity of contemporary Britain.'
Comprising three interconnected exhibition spaces, the gallery's open plan layout allows for a thoughtful and fluid presentation of diverse artistic practices, from large sculptural works to traditional Indian miniature paintings.
The space has been carefully adapted to accommodate both curated exhibitions and focussed solo shows.
Runjeet Singh Gallery is set to deliver a considered programme of solo and group exhibitions throughout the year, alongside participation in art fairs and collaborative projects.

Spanning a range of media and perspectives, the exhibition foregrounds the diversity and vitality of contemporary South Asian diasporic art practices in the UK today.
