After eight years and over 320 appearances for Leamington, an experienced midfield Leamington football player is set to retire at the end of this season.
Joe Clarke will make his final appearance with Leamington FC, against one of his former clubs, Tamworth, in the Birmingham Senior Cup Final on Thursday 30 April at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium in Walsall.
Clarke played for Solihull Borough, Evesham United, Redditch United, Solihull Moors, Darlington, Kidderminster Harriers, Tamworth and Wrexham, where he made over 150 appearances and had a fanzine named after him, all while becoming an FA Trophy winner with a win at Wembley - where he was featured in three games at.
In a message posted on Leamington FC's social media, Clarke shared: "Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone at Leamington; players, staff, and fans. The club has exceeded expectations over the last 8 years, and it's been an unbelievable journey to be part of. Playing for Paul has been a pleasure; he's not just a manager but a true friend. He's built teams that made even the toughest moments enjoyable, and I'll always be a supporter...
"Wishing Leamington and all my other previous clubs all the very best for the future. I'll be there as a fan."
While Clarke announced his retirement initially after Leamington's Play Off Final win against Telford, he returned to the club the following November.
The club shared: "With four goals in his 321 appearances for the Brakes, a Joe Clarke goal is definitely rare, but no one will forget his long range finish against Guiseley in 2019 while captaining the side.'
"Clarkey has been a real help for us since we walked through the door," added Scott Easterlow, the club's new First Team Manager.
Easterlow continued: "This club is in his heart and that's shown in his performances over the last few weeks even after we have changed his position slightly. He's been another brilliant servant to this football club, It's fitting that he will end his playing time as a National League North player and with a Cup Final at the Bescot."
Everyone at Leamington FC wishes Joe and his family all the very best and thanks Clarkey for his contributions during nine seasons in gold and black, he always welcome back.
