Leamington Police refine response strategy with updated light and siren protocol
By Nadia Sayed 22nd Apr 2026
Drivers may notice a subtle change in how police vehicles are using blue lights on the roads this week in and around Leamington.
It comes as part of a new approach designed to improve response times and better serve local communities.
For emergencies where immediate assistance is needed, officers will continue to respond "on blues," using lights and sirens to reach incidents as quickly as possible.
However, the update introduces a more flexible use of blue lights for incidents that are not emergencies but still require a quick response.
In these cases, officers may briefly activate blue lights to navigate through traffic or pass safely through red lights.
Once the immediate hazard has been cleared, the lights will be switched off and officers will continue driving as normal.
The change is intended to help officers reach important incidents more quickly, particularly where timely evidence gathering or safeguarding of vulnerable individuals is required.
To help the public understand the new approach, police have shared a video demonstration showing how this will work in practice which can be viewed on the Leamington Police Facebook page.
The update is being communicated in advance to ensure transparency and avoid confusion among road users.
Further details will be released over the coming days as part of Response Policing Week, offering more insight into how police respond to calls and work to keep communities safe.
