Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.

Funding boost for local club

A local cricket club has been given a boost this season thanks to funding from the council of over £16,000.

In September 2025 Leek Wootton Cricket Club was awarded £16,825 by Warwick District Council to replace their cricket nets.

The club received a grant through the council's Rural/Urban Capital Improvement Scheme (RUCIS), with the investment already making a difference to players and the local community.

Athletics Track

Residents have been given a first glimpse at what a new athletics near Leamington could look like, as a planning application for the facility has now been submitted.

A planning application has been put forward by Warwick District Council (WDC) for the track on the land near Fusiliers Way.

The much-anticipated new facility comes as part of a major overhaul in the area between Warwick and Leamington, with the existing Edmonscote Track set to be moved to the new site.

2,000 new homes spark controversy

A parish council has said there is "overwhelming evidence" against plans to build more than 2,000 new homes and community facilities on rural land between Leamington Spa and Kenilworth.

Split across two parcels, the land - which looks destined to be included in the new South Warwickshire Local Plan (SWLP) - surrounds Kenilworth Road.

The proposed 2,000 new houses are being challenged by a new study that warns of "chronic failings in infrastructure planning", alongside concerns about flooding, wildlife protection and the loss of agricultural land.

Cafe's next chapter

A Leamington cafe which donates its profits to helping people in the community, has reopened under a brand new name.

The Forget Me Not Cafe CIC located on Clarendon Avenue, reopened this week (1 September under the new name, Community Coffee Cup.

The cafe holds events to help Dementia, Disability and Cancer charities as well as special occasions such as birthdays or wedding anniversaries.
