A local community organisation is raising money to secure the future of its project which aims to give local children the opportunity to connect with nature while helping to tackle climate change.

Achieving Results in Communities (ARC), which co-manages Foundry Wood in Leamington, has launched a Crowdfunder to help secure the future of a unique outdoor learning project for local children: Children's Forest Leamington.

Between 2021 and 2023, more than 300 children and adults planted 3,000 trees at a site near Radford Semele, creating a brand new community woodland on an organic farm.

Since then, ARC's qualified Forest School leaders have welcomed children from Radford Semele Primary School, Clapham Terrace Primary School, Lillington Primary School and Lillington Youth Group to learn, play and explore in nature's classroom.

Through regular sessions, children build confidence, develop practical skills and grow a genuine connection with the natural world. Families have also become part of the project through weekend woodland sessions, creating a community that is helping the forest flourish.

One Year 5 pupil from Clapham Terrace Primary summed up the impact: "It has inspired me to treat nature like a living person."

ARC believes projects like the Children's Forest have never been more important.

"Children won't just learn about climate change here. They'll help tackle it by planting, caring for and watching trees grow that will benefit generations to come. Every tree planted today helps create a cooler, greener place for people to enjoy, live and play" shared, Agnes Ashbell, ARC Forest School Leader.

Funding for the project has now come to an end.

To keep the Children's Forest alive and ensure local schools and families can continue to benefit, ARC launched the Crowdfunder with incentives: every donation will be matched by Aviva, effectively doubling every contribution.

A £10 donation will also becomes £20, while £50 becomes £100. Supporters can also choose from a range of exclusive rewards as a thank you for their generosity.

Local people are also invited to experience the Children's Forest for themselves at the next Family Forest Session on this Saturday, 4 July, 1pm-3pm, where families can explore the woodland and discover first hand why this project matters.

This is an outdoor group, so attendees should dress for all weathers.
