Accesbility boost granted for historic Leamington Church
By Nadia Sayed 13th Jul 2026
A Leamington church has been given the green light for a series of accessibility upgrades.
Plans to install an access ramp with guard rails, new steps and bollard lighting have been approved for St Marks Church located on St Marks Road in the town.
The proposed external works include remodelling the church's back door, removing its existing "steep concrete ramp ," installing a level access desk with a new ramp connection to the church's car park and steps to its existing pathway.
Also, the installation of automatic internal doors with no changes to the historic door at the church itself.
In response to the plans Royal Leamington Spa Town Council supported the application, noting how "the scheme proposes sympathetic accessibility improvements to the listed public building."
WDC Conservation also had no objection to the amended scheme.

However, Historic England initially raised concerns over the proposed lighting scheme.
According to the planning application, "this specific concern has been addressed in line with their {Historic England} recommendation."
There were no comments either objecting or in favour of the plans.

The report approving the plans, stated: "The amended proposal is considered to have an acceptable impact upon the character of the listed building, with the scheme considered to preserve the architectural integrity of the church, as well as the wider conservation area.
"As such, the application is in accordance with all of the aforementioned policies and is recommended for approval."
