Discover Leamington's hidden historic sporting past this September

Locals are being invited to discover the sporting history of one of Leamington's 'most fascinating buildings.'

Running from 11 to 20 September, England's largest festival of heritage and culture will be celebrated across the district, showcasing sites that are not usually open to the pubic or would normally charge an entry fee, with more than 50 free events and openings taking place. Included in this list is 50 Bedford Street in Leamington, rich in history.

There is also the opportunity to join a variety of themed guided walks around Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth.

Local attractions including the Lord Leycester, National Trust properties at Packwood House and Baddesley Clinton, Hill Close Gardens and Bagot's Castle will be offering free admission at limited times.

Last week the Chairman of Warwick District Council, Councillor Pam Redford was given a pre-festival tour of the historic Leamington Tennis Court Club on Bedford Street, she shared: "This building is a hidden gem, with a unique sporting history, just waiting to be discovered.

"I would thoroughly recommend a visit along with the many other openings and events taking place, there really is something for everybody and it's all for free.

"A big thank you to all of the volunteers who have given up their time to organise and run this year's festival"

There is also the rare opportunity to see inside Chesterton Windmill, one of the county's most recognisable landmarks, visit the tower and Victorian ringing room at the Collegiate Church of St Mary or find out where Guy of Warwick lived and died as a hermit.
