Council throws out plans for 46 retirement flats
By James Smith 5th Jan 2026
Council planners have refused an application for 46 retirement flats off Harbury Lane.
Warwick District Council has thrown out the plans from McCarthy Stone which would have seen the new facility built at the junction with Vickers Way.
First revealed in 2024, the scheme would have seen the one and two-bed flats split across three floors, with a "home owners lounge", entrance area and managers office on the ground floor.
Objections were submitted by 10 members of the public, Cllr Andrew Day, Cllr Jan Matecki and Bishops Tachbrook Parish Council.
The latter said the scheme did not accord to the local plan and is earmarked for community space.
Rejecting the application, a council report said: "When considering all the relevant matters within the planning balance, officers consider that the adverse impacts of granting planning will significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits identified.
"The development is therefore considered to represent an unsustainable form of development and it is recommended that planning permission be refused."
