The Paprika Club in the heart of Leamington Spa has won multiple awards over its near-30 years in the town. And it is not difficult to see why.

My first impressions on our visit on a Wednesday night was how busy the Regent Street eatery was for a Wednesday night. The whole place was nearly full for most of the evening, with groups of all sizes coming to sample the wide-ranging menu.

It was also clear how many of the customers were clearly regulars, knowing the front of house staff by name - surely as good a recommendation as any.

While we were newbies and Paprika Club was busy, in no way were we short changed when it came to the quality of service. We were made to feel incredibly welcome and accommodated. 

Throughout the night the staff took great pride in telling us about each of the dishes we sampled; a testament to the care that goes into each meal and the benefits of dining at a family-run indie.

And when it came to the food, we were not disappointed either.

After plenty of poppodoms and dips we turned to our selection of starters. Instead of choosing our own dishes, we allowed our hosts to order for us so we could better sample the menu.

Flakey fish tikka bites, fresh pani puri and lamb chops covered in delicious but not overly hot spice were all brought out to start, and were all fantastic in their own way. 

After a nice break to let our starters go down, then came the main event. A huge range of main dishes, showing off everything Paprika Club has to offer was brought, each as enjoyable as the next.

Sizzling chicken tawa with lots of fried vegetables was followed by Tandoori king prawns packed with flavour and served with plenty of sticky rice.

Then came the Lasani, a rich chicken curry with a subtle sweet and sour flavour - perfect for those who don't want too much spice.

At the other end of the spectrum came the Hot & Spicy. Packed with heat this fantastic curry came topped with crunchy thin potato straws - definitely worth a try if you can handle a bit of extra spice.

We also sampled the saag paneer and chicken biryani which were both top notch.

All this with rice and garlic naans, made for an incredibly filling and enjoyable meal.

Needless to say we took a lot of that away with us, something the team were only too happy to sort for us.

And while we couldn't eat too much more, the meal was finished with a very light and delicate milk cake, with a subtle cardamom flavour. This as well as the incredibly eye-catching gulab jamun - bread like balls coated in sugar and served (flaming!) in orange liquor.
