A familiar face within the Leamington Spa community, Pete Rourke will be stepping down from his role as the Mayor's chauffeur for the Royal Leamington Spa Town Council later this year.

Having previously worked for Warwick District Council for many years before joining the Town Council in 2011, Pete has become a well-known presence at civic events across the town and beyond, supporting 14 mayors during his tenure.

His "incredible knowledge of the local area has made him an invaluable asset to a long line of mayors from the Town Council", said the council's team.

From charity fundraisers and community celebrations to formal occasions and late-night civic duties, Pete has been a constant and reassuring presence, often leading the way - quite literally, as Mace-Bearer.

Many will recognise him at the front of the Remembrance Sunday civic parade, carrying the civic mace with great pride or guiding the mayoral procession at the Town Council's annual meeting.

The current Mayor, Cllr Ruggy Singh, said: "Pete will be hugely missed, not just by the council but also by the wider community, who have come to know and respect his knowledge over the years.

"I have found his personal insight into events and the people surrounding them invaluable, and I offer him, on behalf of all former mayors, a debt of gratitude. As he prepares to enjoy a well-earned retirement, we thank him for his years of service and wish him all the very best for the future."

Continuing the Tradition - Mayor's Chauffeur Vacancy

Royal Leamington Spa Town Council is now looking to recruit a new Mayor's Chauffeur/Attendant to work within its small but friendly staff team.

The successful candidate will be required to drive the mayor's car and take the mayor and consort to and from a wide range of engagements.

They will support and assist the mayor in their civic duties, ensuring that he or she arrives in good time.

The post holder will also assist the Town Council team at relevant events, including acting as Mace-Bearer at some civic events.

The application form can be found online here and the closing date for applications is Thursday 4 September.
