Shop's makeover refused by councillors

A local shop has been told it cannot give its frontage a makeover, by councillors.
Planners at Warwick District Council had recommended the application for the Premier store at Home Farm Crescent, Whitnash be refused.
The business had applied for planning permission for new windows, doors and for a new roller shutter.
Whitnash Town Council had supported the application, but district officers said it should be refused.
"The proposal also includes the installation of an external roller shutter, which would be deployed across the entirety of the shopfront," a council report said.

"It is noted that none of the other retail premises featured within the small terrace of shops features a roller shutter and therefore the introduction of such a feature would be incongruous, uncharacteristic and out of keeping.
"It is also considered that it would in itself constitute a poor design solution."
The decision was given to the council's planning committee on Tuesday (June 16) and members voted in favour of refusing planning permission.
The report continued: "It is therefore considered that the proposed development would introduce a security design element that has the most detrimental effect on the character of the street scene and visual amenity.
"It is not considered that the implementation of such intrusive measures has been reasonably justified through the value of merchandise, existing or historic levels of crime, or through the exploration and dismissal of less intrusive measures."
