A space offering support for those who feel vulnerable or need support during a night out in Leamington Spa has extended its opening times.

Safe Space will now be accessible in the South Lodge on Parade on Friday and Saturday evenings from 10pm to 4am.

The space is supported and funded by Royal Leamington Spa Town Council and will be operated by the WDC Community Safety team.

Cllr Jim Sinnott, Warwick District Council's Portfolio Holder for Safer, Healthier and Active Communities, commented: "Everyone in our community should be able to enjoy a safe night out, free from harm.

"However, we know that there are circumstances when someone can find themselves in a vulnerable situation, often through no fault of their own. Our Safe Space is not only somewhere to seek help if you find yourself in need, but also a place to gain advice on prevention of drink spiking and other potential dangers."

The provision of a Safe Space is one of several measures in place by the Council and its partners to help reassure night-time economy users about safety, with a particular focus on women and girls.

It is also in line with an overarching commitment to combat VAWG (violence against women and girls) offences.

Since it opened in November 2023, the initiative has provided over 550 visitors with a range of support with matters such as mental health, intoxication, medical assistance, and the supply of anti-spiking test strips.

Cllr Ruggy Singh, Mayor of Royal Leamington Spa and Town Councillor, further added: "The Town Council is delighted to support the continued operation of the Safe Space in the town on Friday and Saturday nights.

"We want the town centre to be a welcoming and safe place for residents and visitors, and feel that the Safe Space is an important contribution to achieving this."

Safe Space is located at South Lodge, Jephson Gardens, opposite the Royal Pump Rooms and can be found using the What3Words urban.owls.bunch.
