Following a fire at flats in Leamington, the council has confirmed residents have been "evacuated safely and unharmed."

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service (WFRS) were alerted reports of a domesitc fire at around 4:30pm yesterday evening (10 February) at Fallow Hill flats in Sydenham.

Four appliances attended from Leamington, Southam and Kenilworth Fire Stations.

On arrival, a fire was found in a bedroom in one of the flats.

A statement from WFRS confirmed: "Crews were on scene and acted quickly to extinguish the fire using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and two main lines jets."

Those directly affected by the incident were supported by council officers on-site.

This included helping families with immediate need for accommodation, food, and clothing,

The council shared it will work with those affected to assess what it needs to put in place for the longer term.

A statement from Warwick District Council read: "We would like to thank the local community for the support they have shown the families at this terrible time, and we are now working with emergency services to establish the cause of the fire and secure the safety of the building."

Cllr Ian Davison, Leader of Warwick District Council responded to the incident stating: "I was shocked to learn of the fire at Fallow Hill yesterday and have been keeping updated with progress. I am relieved to report that the Fire Service responded very quickly and evacuated all residents of the affected flats safely, and housing officers provided them with the food, clothing, and household items they needed to ensure they were comfortable last night."

He went on to confirm each family now has a plan in place for being re-housed or returning to their flat.

"I understand that one of the families has lost their much-loved family pet and I would like to pass on my condolences to them" he continued.

"We are continuing our work with the Fire Service to establish the cause of the fire, which is not yet known, after which time we will be able to start to clear and repair the damage. Housing Officers will remain at the flats all day today, so that residents can advise them of any damage to their homes and we can assess the wider impact of the fire.

"Many thanks to the Fallow Hill community and the residents of Warwick district for how quickly you all came together to offer practical help and support to the families; it is heartwarming to see how resourceful everyone has been during a traumatic time for them."

A further update will be shared later this afternoon.
