Plans have been submitted to install a battery storage system at village hall near Leamington.
The plans for the new system are part of Weston-under-Wetherley Village Hall's efforts to reduce its reliance on electricity from the grid.
The proposal would see a 15kWh battery housed in a secure, external cupboard on the north-facing kitchen wall of the village hall, allowing excess energy generated by rooftop solar panels to be stored for later use.
The application focuses on the external battery storage unit rather than the associated rooftop solar panels, which, according to the applicant, are considered permitted development and do not require a separate planning application.

The battery system itself consists of a high-efficiency Tesla Powerwall 3 battery storage system featuring an integral hybrid solar inverter.
The plans state: "By combining the battery cells and the solar inverter into a single integrated unit, the design eliminates the need for multiple, sprawling secondary electrical boxes on the external fabric of the building."
Addressing safety issues, the plans further state that the outer cabinet will remain locked at all times "to prevent unauthorized access or vandalism."
The inner Tesla cabinet also has its own locking system.
