A vacant shop unit in Leamington is set for a new lease of life with plans to convert it into a hot food takeaway, deli and café now approved.
The new venue will be located at a currently empty retail store on Clemens Street in Leamington Spa.
Seventeen residents showed support for the plans, including the would support a small business, introduce new businesses to the local area, improve the vitality of the town centre and fill a currently vacant shop.
The application, however, received 10 objections from the public, including concerns over odours, rubbish, impact on parking, anti-social behaviour, and already having enough takeaways locally.
Leamington Spa Town Council, Warwickshire Police, the Council's Conservation Officer and Environmental Health all raised no objections, given conditions to protect neighbours and the wider area were put into place.
Recommending the plans be approved, a Warwick District Council report concluded: "The proposed development is not considered to result in harm to heritage assets, residential amenity or the vitality and viability of the town centre.
"Therefore, the application is recommended for approval."
Councillors at Tuesday's (September 9) planning committee meeting voted in favour of approving the application.
