New axe throwing venue set to open in Warwickshire with community focus

The opening of a brand new axe-throwing venue in Warwickshire, is just a few weeks away.
The Axe Throw will open its doors for the first time on Wednesday 29 October (2025), at Unit 57 Space Business Centre on Tachbrook Park Road.
At its heart, is single dad and local entrepreneur AJ Janney, who's combining his love for activities and mission to create a new community-centred social space.
"I've always wanted to start a business and I'm really big into activities and things that people can go and do and I thought 'okay, Leamington hasn't got an axe-throwing place, so let's start one up" AJ told Nub News.
Currently, AJ works as a truck driver, which he explained, requires long hours that don't fit well with the kind of life he wants, especially with his intentions to start homeschooling his young son soon, who he co-parents.
After getting the keys to this week, AJ explained, the process of setting up the business has moved incredibly fast.
"It has all happened very quickly and so I've had a lot to get my head around, it's been a journey."
He added that ensuring the safety of guests has also been crucial in setting up the business.
"There has been a lot of research involved because it's [axe throwing] obviously a lot bigger in America than in the UK.
"Obviously the measurements and then the way it has to be set up with the width for the lines and the height for safety has all be important to get right" AJ said.
Reflecting on the process of bringing Axe Throw to life, AJ said his son has got to be part of it all, something he hopes his son will also get to experience one day.
"He [AJ's son] has got to watch the whole business be created which I love because that's what I want for him, so eventually he will do something like this himself.
"So to share the whole journey with him has been amazing and he had the same thing where he got to watch this mum open the Rage Rooms, and see how that all works.
"And now he gets to watch me do the same thing and open a business, so hopefully it'll sink in for him and by the time he's maybe five or six years old he'll have his own business" joked AJ.
While the new venue will be an exciting outlet for visitors, AJ also hopes it'll serve a deeper purpose - raising awareness for men's mental health and providing a space for men to talk about their emotions.
AJ expressed: "I have always been big on men's mental health and I always thought that I would do something in business along those lines, so what I'm planning on doing is incorporating that into the axe throw and having weekly or bi weekly men's groups."
He added, as well as being a place to do axe throwing, it will facilitate a men's circle for men to come and talk openly about their emotions and things going on in their lives.
Additionally, as a single dad, AJ hopes to offer a space for other single dads, where they can talk about the highs and lows of being a single parent and share it with those in a similar position.
The axe throwing will also be a space for social sessions, where people, who may be dealing with loneliness and wanting to meet new people, can go and make new friends.
The venue will be open everyday with the exception of Sunday and Monday.
