Leamington’s NatWest bank to close amongst wave of wider branch closures

NatWest has confirmed it will close its branch at Royal Priors on Parade, as part of a wider wave of cuts across the UK, marking another blow to the high street banking sector.
The Leamington branch is one of 55 more closures announced by the bank.
Nearby Stratford-upon-Avon is also impacted, with its local branch set to shut.
NatWest said the decision comes in response to changing customer habits, with more people choosing to bank online or via mobile apps. However, the closures have raised concerns about access to in-person banking services, especially for older or more vulnerable residents.
Despite the closures, NatWest customers will still be able to access banking services through alternative means. These include access to other NatWest group branches, such as RBS, where NatWest account holders can carry out everyday transactions, mobile branch services, where a staff member will set up a mobile service in a location for a number of day, and Post Office branches, which provide basic banking functions including cash and cheque deposits, balance checks, and cash withdrawals.
A NatWest spokesperson said that over 80 percent of their current account holders now use digital banking, and more than 97 percent of retail accounts are opened online.
They noted that customers value the speed and convenience of digital services for everyday tasks, while still appreciating face-to-face support for more complex needs.
The spokesperson also stated NatWest is adapting to changing customer behaviour by investing in digital services and personalisation.
While digital engagement is increasing, they emphasised that branches remain important, with over £20 million planned for investment in the branch network across the UK in 2025.
This includes improving service, enhancing branches, reducing environmental impact, and supporting alternatives like Post Office services and Banking Hubs.
Temporary support will also be offered in some areas through 12-week Community Pop-Ups.
