Leamington Police has advised parents to reconsider purchasing electric scooters for their children after confiscating two illegal scooters from youths.

Officers from Leamington Spa SNT conducted patrols, including a 'fail to stop' incident involving an e-bike.

Two illegal e-scooters, which were being ridden through the town by two youths aged 14 and 12, were also confiscated.

Currently, e-scooters are only permitted on private land with the landowner's permission.

It is illegal to use them on public roads.

Leamington Police said: "These scooters may be convenient, but they are dangerous for both the rider and members of the public sharing the same footpath.

'We would urge parents everywhere thinking of buying their children e-scooters not to, they may be legal to buy, but they're illegal to ride in public.

"If you choose to buy one anyway, it could be an expensive mistake as once they're seized, they are destroyed and cannot be reclaimed."
