Leamington planning roundup: bridge repairs, pub renovation, hotel expansion and more
By Nadia Sayed 24th Oct 2026
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Historic bridge repairs
An historic local bridge is closed again for repairs following another crash.
Offchurch Bridge on Welsh Road is shut for repairs until November 18, Warwickshire County Council (WCC) has confirmed.
The grade II listed bridge was damaged yet again in a crash earlier this year, with damage caused to the parapets on both sides.
Pub renovation
A family-friendly pub in Leamington is set to reveal a new and improved look, following a six-figure investment.
The Royal Horse pub on Poseidon Way, part of pub company and brewer Greene King, will temporarily close from 26 October whilst renovation works take place, with the revamped venue set to reopen its doors to the public next month (November 2026).
The investment will give The Royal Horse's outdoor space a new lease of life with upgraded garden furniture and over 80 additional seats, as well as the refurbishment of the children's play area for families to enjoy.
The pub will also be installing an outdoor TV screen to enhance sports viewing on key matchdays.
Hotel expansion
Plans for a major expansion at a Leamington hotel have been revealed.
If approved, the plans would see The Jephson Hotel on Warwick New Road developed, with a two-storey extension to the back of the existing hotel. This would include 22 new bedrooms.
There would also be minor changes to the hotel's interior, including a new back-of-house reception entrance.
Homeless shelter redevelopment
A former homeless shelter in Leamington could be converted back into a single-family home under new plans.
The application concerns William Wallsgrove House on Lillington Road, which was opened in 2018 by Warwick District Council and operated as a 24/7 direct-access homeless hostel.
The hotel provided round-the-clock accommodation, care, and support for rough sleepers in the district.
Now, the property could be developed into a single-family home.
