GALLERY: Beacon lighting in Leamington for the 80th anniversary of VE Day

In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe), a beacon lighting was held at Newbold Coymn in Leamington Spa.
Crowds began gathering ahead of the event, which commenced from 7.30pm yesterday (8 May) with a live band playing from 8.30pm.

VE Day, which marked the end of the World War II conflict in Europe, was honoured across the country.
Similar events, including a beacon lighting and raising of the flag, were held in Kenilworth and Warwick.
Veterans, councillors and the local community all gathered ahead of the beacon lighting to honour the day.
The Chair of Warwick District Council, Cllr Rob Margave, commenced the speeches stating: "It really is fantastic to see so many of you here today."
Cllr Margave continued: "The light from the beacon represents the light of peace that emerged from the darkness of war, allowing us to pause and reflect, to give thanks to and commemorate those who gave so much for the blessings of freedom, democracy and peace."
The Deputy Mayor of Royal Leamington Spa, Cllr Ruggy Singh, followed by reading the tribute.
The speeches were followed by three prayers and the beacon lighting at 9.30pm.

Food and drink stalls were also available to visitors.
This included hot drinks, doughnuts and a stall selling pizza.
