'Grassland enhancement' at Newbold Comyn is underway this spring, Warwick District Council (WDC) has confirmed.

The local authority is carrying out works to overseed the grassed areas within the old golf fairways "to enhance the habitat value of the land".

WDC said an area the size of two and half football pitches will be seeded with wildflowers.

"A seed mix including wildflowers such as common knapweed, oxeye daisy, meadow buttercup and yellow rattle, as well as meadow grasses, will be sown," the council said.

"This will see the introduction of a wide range of native meadow plants that are important for pollinating insects, other invertebrates, and birds.

"Once the meadow has established it will be put into an annual meadow cut."

The seeding comes after 500 native trees were planted at the park.
