Leamington is set to host a traditional Sikh event this weekend, with a Nagar Kirtan procession taking place in the town.

The procession will take place on Sunday 4 October, between 11am and 3pm, around the neighbourhood of the Gurdwara Sahib.

Nagar Kirtan is a traditional Sikh custom involving the processional singing of holy hymns throughout the community.

The procession will be led by the Panj Pyare, meaning the "Five Beloved Ones", who wear traditional saffron-coloured attire, and will be followed by the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism, which will be carried on a float.

It will also feature the playing of drums and hymns as it makes the procession makes its way through the streets.

The event will begin in the courtyard of the Gurdwara Sahib at 11am before travelling along Kingsway, continuing onto Tachbrook Road and then Queensway, before returning to the Gurdwara Sahib.

A rolling road closure will be in place between 11am and 3pm as the procession moves along the route.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys while the procession is taking place.
