A Leamington burglar has been jailed for 30 months thanks to extensive CCTV enquiries and local knowledge from officers.

Just before midnight on 7 June, 35-year-old Aaron Palmer from Leamington made his way into a flat on the Parade, stealing a laptop and a handbag.

The victim, awakened by their dog barking, reviewed their home CCTV footage, which captured Palmer exiting the premises with the stolen items in hand.

Officers swiftly responded to the scene and successfully gathered additional CCTV footage showing Palmer fleeing the vicinity.

A local police constable, familiar with Palmer, immediately identified him from the surveillance images, facilitating his arrest.

In a turn of events later in June, a report was filed regarding an abandoned stolen Jaguar.

An extensive CCTV trawl for the areas where the car was, tracked it as having passed through after it was stolen.

Among the footage, a detective identified a man entering the Jaguar as Palmer.

Palmer pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and handling stolen goods.

On Tuesday, 22 July, at Warwick Crown Court, he was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

Due to being on conditional discharge at the time of the offences, Palmer received an additional month in jail.

Detective Constable Sara Skinner commented: "To invade someone's personal space in this manner is intolerable, and we are committed to exerting all efforts to ensure accountability for those involved in such crimes.

"I hope this serves as a clear warning to anyone contemplating a similar violation of a homeowner's sanctuary."
