Leamington's Loft Theatre's is set to showcase Middle, a truthful, moving and often funny portrait of a forty-something couple whose marriage hangs in the balance.

Following the success of Beginning last year, Viki Betts returns to direct Middle, the second part of David Eldridge's acclaimed trilogy. While each play stands alone, together they explore relationships at different stages of life.

Written by David Eldridge, and directed by Viki Bett, Middle explores love, companionship and the loneliness that can exist both within and outside relationships.

Director Viki Betts shared: "As with Beginning, this play unfolds within the same timeframe as the audience watches, creating an intimate experience. Maggie and Gary begin to have the conversations that many couples don't.

"They haven't checked in with each other in years. Their lives are built on assumptions, compromises, and ticking boxes. The natural dialogue swings from funny to cutting, from awkward to heartbreaking. It's a rollercoaster."

Betts added: "I do hope you enjoy the Middle of this trilogy, and perhaps one day we will see [the] End."

Audiences are likely to recognise echoes of their own lives in the misunderstandings, frustrations and moments of vulnerability that emerge as Maggie and Gary confront the realities of the life they have built together.

Where Beginning followed two people taking their first tentative steps towards commitment, Middle captures the middle years of a marriage, full of reflection, familiarity and doubt. Is this what they wanted or expected from being together?
