Here are our top picks this week:

1. Indie Rock at Temperance Bar

Join Daniel Barrie and his band to celebrate the launch of their new album, 'Bluer Shade of Grey' at Temperance Bar.

Taking place on 16 January the event will run from 7pm to 11pm.

Backed by his Drop D's, Daniel will bring to life The Bluer Shade of Grey project with all its raw emotion, energy and story telling.

'Bluer Shade of Grey' - a coming-of-age record that captures the highs and lows of growing up in a fractured world. Against the backdrop of Coventry's streets and post-Covid Britain, Daniel explores love, grief, loss, and the weight of uncertainty through an indie-rock lens.

Inspired by the likes of The Stone Roses, Daniel's sound fuses indie grit with catchy melodies and candid lyrics. Each track tells a story of a young person navigating nights out, first loves, heartbreak, grief, and the reality of a disjointed country, all framed by Daniel's firsthand experiences.

The launch part will provide you with the first chance to experience the album in full with other favourites mixed in, learning about the story's behind each song and of course the opportunity to purchase a limited edition physical copy of the album as well as other merch.

Tickets can be bought online here.

2 . The Loft Theatre opens 2026 with Orwell's Animal Farm

Leamington's Loft Theatre is set to begin its 2026 season with a new staging of George Orwell's Animal Farm, a sharp and timely retelling of the classic political satire.

The show will start on run from Wednesday 21 until Saturday 31 January 2026.

At once funny and frightening, delightful and devastating, Animal Farm charts the fall of idealism and the rise of tyranny after the animals of Manor Farm rise up against their oppressive human owner in a struggle for rights and equality.

Tickets are available now via The Loft Theatre's box office. For more information and booking details, visit here, by emailing [email protected], or by calling 01926 830 680 (answer phone service).

3. Royal String Quartet comes to Leamington

After 25 years of joint music-making, 20 internationally acclaimed records, being six-time nominees and twice winners of the 'Fryderyk' award, and concerts given on all continents and a loyal audience, the Royal String Quartet from Poland is a world-recognised ensemble.

The show will take place on Friday 16 January.

Witnessing their exuberance, artistic ingenuity, penchant for exploration, and openness to new challenges, it is hard to believe they have been performing together for so many years. In the quartet's interpretations critics find a multitude of "vivid textures and colours, supported by the insightful knowledge of the musical construction" (BBC Music Magazine).

Their interpretations are "confident and energetic, characterised by a vast array of dynamics and timbres, with carefully planned, surprising twists" (Gramophone), and we are delighted to welcome them back to Leamington after far too long a gap.
