Old pub, new vision: A Leamington favourite reopens under new ownership with focus on community
By Nadia Sayed 28th Apr 2026
A well-known pub in Leamington has been brought back to life, as new management has transformed it into a fresh, welcoming and community-driven space.
Now under new leadership, The New Bulldog Pub on St Margaret's Road is undergoing a significant rebrand, both in terms of its physical appearance and its reputation.
The new team is determined to change previous narratives around the pub, and restore it to its role as a hub for locals including younger people and families.
"We really want to move away from the stigma that used to surround The Bulldog," explains the new owner, Carmen Anderson.
She continued: "It's completely different management now, with a totally new outlook. We want people to come in and see the change for themselves."
At the heart of the relaunch is a strong focus on community. The aim is to create a space where locals can gather comfortably, whether for food, drinks, or events.
Carmen further shared: "The whole reason I took on the pub was for the people in this immediate community. They shouldn't have to walk past their local pub and go somewhere else. We want it to be somewhere you can just stroll home from."

A whole new look and feel
Plans are also in place to make the venue more family-friendly, with the introduction of food service and a welcoming environment for all ages.
The pub is already beginning to build a varied events calendar, designed to appeal to a wide range of interests. From live music catering to different tastes, to more intimate gatherings, there will be something for everyone.
A newly developed function and VIP lounge will play a central role in this offering, hosting poker nights, movie nights, tasting sessions and Sunday lunches.
The team has already trialled its Sunday lunch service with a small group, using feedback to refine the experience ahead of a wider launch.
With plans to expand kitchen capabilities, a fully operational food service is expected by the end of June this year.
The function space will also be available for hire, supporting everything from private events to community group meetings.

Alongside the physical and cultural transformation, the pub is also being rebranded in a way that honours family legacy.
While retaining a connection to its well-known name, the venue will introduce two new spaces: The Esworth Suite, named after Carmen's father, and The Lynford Bar, named in memory of her late brother.
"It's important to us to keep part of The New Bulldog identity, but also to show people that this is a new chapter" explained Carmen.

Grand launch event
The community is invited to experience the transformation firsthand at the official launch event on 6 June 2026, which will mark the reopening of the function room and the introduction of the newly named spaces.
Guests can expect a welcoming atmosphere and a chance to see the changes that have already been made, with more to come in the months ahead.
The pub also now operates a fully functional website, where visitors can browse upcoming events and get tickets to them, view the menu and leave feedback.
As the venue continues to evolve, the team hopes it will once again become a lively, inclusive space at the heart of the community.
