A 45-year-old man has been sentenced after failing to provide driver details for a car linked to several speeding offences across Warwickshire and the West Midlands

The registered keeper was noticed by officers after a number of speeding offences were detected across both force areas.

Despite being legally required to provide driver details, the driver failed to respond to multiple notices, resulting in several convictions in his absence.

The individual tallied 44 penalty points and was disqualified from driving.

However, after further police enquiries the man was found to have continued to use the vehicle, leading in officers catching him driving.

His vehicle was seized and the he was reported for the offence and ordered to attend court.

After failing to attend court, police attended his home address, where he was arrested and remanded for court the following day.

The man appeared before magistrates in Coventry on 12 August and was sentenced to rehabilitation activity, with a requirement of 80 hours of unpaid work.Also a further 12-month driving disqualification on top of an existing one, meaning he will not be eligible to apply for his licence until 2029, court costs and a victim surcharge.

OPU and Roads Safety Supervisor Alison Treharne said: "Using a vehicle on a road involves taking responsibility and complying with legal requirements to keep people safe.

"Failing to provide details for speeding offences does not make the matter disappear, and can ultimately lead to far more serious outcomes from court proceedings.

"The work of the Operation Tenacity Team, supported by the Traffic Process Unit and Operational Patrol Unit, ensured this offender was identified, arrested and brought before the courts.

"We remain committed to holding offenders accountable and improving road safety across Warwickshire."
