A popular Italian family-run restaurant in Leamington Spa has closed.

Piccolinos on Spencer Street in Leamington closed on 22 May following its owner, Domenico Urso's, retirement, after running the pizzeria and restaurant for nearly five decades.

In a post shared on Facebook, the owners explained: "After 45 years and recently celebrating his 80th birthday, Domenico has decided to retire and spend more time with his family both here in England and in his beloved Sicily."

Despite the Leamington site's closure on 22 May, Domencio's son will continue running the Warwick site, which is located on Smith Street, "just as he has done over the past 25 years."

The news was met with multiple comments with one person writing: "Domenico has been there as long as I have been alive! And we celebrated key family moments with you - birthdays and exam successes. Wonderful!!! We moved away, otherwise we would absolutely be joyful, grateful regulars still."

Another wrote: "My friend & I celebrated our 16th birthdays in Leamington Piccolinos 26 years ago with all of our friends. I have a lovely memory of my Mum sending two bouquets of flowers for us as a surprise! Francescana pizza & fries was always my order! Best wishes on your retirement and thank you for all of the best memories."

Others congratulated Domenico on his retirement: "Happy retirement and thank you for the good times."
