A man has been jailed for six and a half years after he was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving - six years after he was first due to stand trial.

In April 2019, Raul Fedeles was driving a Vauxhall Astra on the A46 near Snitterfield when he was involved in a collision that resulted in another man dying.

Fedeles was due to appear in court in the summer of 2020 but failed to appear after he fled to his home country of Romania.

He was then extradited to the UK and remanded in custody to appear in court on 23 June.

He was found guilty after a five-day trial and appearing at Warwick Crown Court on Tuesday (30 June), was sentenced to six years and six months in jail.

Detective Sergeant Sam Bates said: "The consequences of dangerous driving can be catastrophic, as this case so tragically demonstrates.

"Someone has lost their life because of the Fedeles' actions, and countless others have been left to deal with the lasting impact of that loss.

"While no sentence can undo the harm caused, the six-and-a-half-year prison term sends a clear message that dangerous driving will not be tolerated.
