Plans have been submitted to alter the toilets at Leamington Spa railway station following recent refurbishment works.

Chiltern Railways has applied for listed building consent for alterations to doors, toilet and baby changing facilities at the station on Old Warwick Road.

The application seeks permission to replace four recently installed modern doors with heritage-style oak replicas designed to match the station's original Art Deco features.

It also includes proposals to restore original door frames, remove painted finishes and reinstate traditional varnished oak finishes.

According to planning documents, modern flush doors were fitted during recent refurbishment works and painted in Chiltern Railways colours on platforms two and three.

However, following discussions with conservation officers, a listed building application was requested to address the changes.

The submitted plans propose replacing the modern doors serving the men's, women's and baby changing facilities with oak doors designed to replicate the appearance of the station's original look.

The planning documents state: "The original doors are not available therefore the proposal is to remove the four modern doors recently fitted and replace these with four Heritage 'Style' doors to match the material and profile of the original doors. The finish of the proposed doors will also match the original (assumed) station doors as closely as possible."

The application also seeks consent for wall-mounted recycling and general waste bins installed on platforms two and three, as well as a metal safety divider next to the baby changing facility on platform two.

Planning documents say the divider was installed because the accessible baby changing room door opens outwards onto the platform. The barrier is intended to "prevent people from accidentally tampering or colliding with the baby change door when in operation."

Warwick District Council is yet to make a decision on the application.
