Plans for a modern TV display screen and surrounding vinyl window in Leamington have received several objections.

The application is for Sheldon Bosley Knight estate agent, a listed building, located on Regent Grove in the town.

It proposes displaying a digital screen advertisement and surrounding window vinyl with a clear touch screen film feature, which is already, partly in place.

The planning documents state: "The proposed position and design reflect the existing Estate Agent signage located along Regent Grove and will harmonise with the existing property and street scene.

"In summary, the proposal is considered to be of a design which is sympathetic to the historical building and surrounding street scene, which will have no additional impact compared to the existing advertisements and branding."

The documents further state, the plans will pose no damage to features which contribute to the current design and 'distinctiveness' of the site.

However, multiple objections to the plans have been made.

One objector wrote the signs will be a 'detriment to historic character' stating: "The presence of a modern, highly illuminated display screen used for advertising is wholly inappropriate within the context of a listed building on this historic street."

They further added the sign will be "visually intrusive, undermining the integrity and authenticity of the building's historic façade and aesthetic."

The Leamington Society also objected stating it would be appreciated if the "matter went before the Planning Committee."

"Listed Denby Buildings in close proximity of the Town Hall isn't the appropriate place for a bright multi-media display and it has potential to set a precedent for others within the Conservation Area of which the proposer is one of the beneficiaries.

"There are many other ways to creatively promote one's business in our town and we would invite the proposer to explore them."

A local resident also disapproved of the plans, citing the importance of keeping the area's character, with the unit's bright sign, an unsuitable advertising that spoils this harmony.

Leamington Spa Town Council made no comments, however, the plans are set to be discussed at an upcoming planning committee meeting scheduled for 4 November 2025.
