Over 7,000 potholes were reported in Warwickshire in the last 12 months, new data has revealed.

Figures released following a freedom of information request show 7,258 potholes were reported to Warwickshire County Council between July 2024 and July 2025.

During that period, over 1,100 were reported in both February and April of this year.

The figures come as new council leader Cllr George Finch announced a new plan to tackle road conditions across the county.

The Reform UK councillor told the media each pothole costs £72 on average to fix, and said bringing this work in-house would save the local authority money.

"Our goal is to beat that and generate significant savings each year," Cllr Finch said.

"We will wait for the outcome of our engagement with the market and continue to explore cost-saving measures in the meantime. 

"We will work to stamp out potholes by stopping them forming in the first place."

Cllr Finch also stated potholes are part of the wider issue of poor road conditions and announced the council will publish a new five-year highways assessment management strategy, focused on prevention rather than cure, in 2026.

To help with this plan, data and AI will be utilised "to drive efficient prevention" and "plan works to reduce the percentage of our road network in poor condition".
