MP for Warwick and Leamington, says he is 'deeply concerned' by the news from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) that they plan to cut 4,000 jobs.

The carmaker formally announced the job cuts yesterday (7 September) confirming plans to reduce the workforce by 4,000 as part of an effort to save £1.7 billion.

JLR employ 34,000 people in the UK, with plants in Solihull, Warwickshire and Merseyside and headquarters in Coventry.

Commenting on his concerns and action taken, Mr Western commented: "The planned job cuts are deeply concerning, and I know so many staff and their families will be extremely worried at the announcement.

"The past 18 months with Trump's tariffs, the cyber-attack on the company and challenging conditions for the UK automotive industry have created a perfect storm.

"I have written to the Government with fellow MPs calling for them to support JLR and the UK's automotive industry. The UK automotive industry is truly one of the crown jewels of our economy and a critical part of our manufacturing base. The core is Jaguar Land Rover."

The last 18 months have been 'seriously tough for the company' according to Matt Western MP. He references the tariffs imposed by President Trump last year, and the cyber-attack on the company, which has been described as the costliest cyber-attack in UK history.

Mr Western, has been joined by many fellow MPs in writing to the Government calling on them to support JLR and the UK's automotive industry. The MPs highlight the significant contribution JLR makes to both their local economies and the national economy.

He further shared: "I am committed to supporting employees and JLR through this hugely difficult time and will be making the case to the Government.
