Leamington's TG Jones (formerly WH Smith) is set to host a book signing on Saturday, 30 August.
The event will take place from 10am to 1.pm during which author, Anthony Etherington will sign copies of his second novel, Some Other Eden.
Known for his work in teleplays and screen dramas, Etherington presents a gripping tale set in Cairo, 2010.
The novel unfolds against the backdrop of a sweltering summer heatwave in the bustling city, where anti-government protests rage on the streets.
The story centers on visiting businessman Geoff Ward, who is kidnapped, prompting his client Khaled and Khaled's sister, Layla, an outspoken activist, to embark on a mission to rescue him.
Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, Geoff's wife, Angie, wrestles with feelings of helplessness and frustration over what she perceives as the government's inaction.
Consequently, she reaches out to Shimon, an old family friend, for assistance.
Some Other Eden raises critical questions: Who has taken Geoff and why? Can Khaled, Layla, and Shimon collaborate effectively to find him? How will Angie and her teenage children cope with his sudden disappearance?
Told through multiple perspectives, Some Other Eden is a captivating narrative that combines the elements of a kidnap thriller with a family drama, showcasing resilience and courage in an increasingly turbulent and fragmented world. Explaining his inspiration, Etherington explained: "Soon after leaving school, I worked on two farms in Israel and, ever since, have remained in touch with one of the families that employed me.
"More than three decades later, I returned regularly to the Middle East, working as a self-employed contractor on various recruitment and people development projects in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Dubai. While abroad, I observed that most of the people I met shared the same hopes and wants: good health for themselves and their families; a decent education and employment prospects for their children; and work that pays.
"Some Other Eden is, at heart, my attempt to give voice to the belief that we have far more in common than divides us."
Etherington is an accomplished writer, with accolades such as the Best Screenplay awards at the European Independent Film Festival and the International Film Festival of Wales in 2014 for Yellow Dragon and the Red Fox.
His short scripts, Flotsam and Gemma's War, have been adapted into films available on YouTube.
His debut novel, Europia, was published in 2022 and two of his short scripts, Flotsam and Gemma's War, were filmed and can be viewed on YouTube.
