A Leamington restaurant is set to be converted back into residential housing after plans received prior approval.

The proposal will see Elma Restaurant, located at Augusta Place, transformed into two, two-bedroom homes.

Planning documents state that the scheme will convert the existing restaurant building, including the upstairs dining areas, staff rooms and toilets, back into residential use.

No changes will be made to the building's external appearance.

Royal Leamington Spa Town Council made comments neither objecting to or supporting the Planning Application.

In support of the plans, one commenter shared: "I support this application for turning the restaurant back into residences.

"That seems a very good idea, as it would make a far greater contribution to the community than yet another restaurant in an area already overcrowded with such places."

The individual also shared they were in favour of granting planning permission "on condition that the change of use is in accord with the plans shown in the application, and especially that commitments not to change the height of the building or its existing footprint are adhered to."

The application states both proposed homes will exceed the Nationally Described Space Standard.

The properties are located in the town centre on the western side of Augusta Place, close to bus and rail links.

Access to the new homes will be via the existing front doors at 8 and 10 Augusta Place.

Each property will also have a private rear garden. The gardens, which are currently used as outdoor dining areas for the restaurant, will be divided between the two homes, with access provided through each property's original rear door.
