Local independent pub The Copper Pot has announced a major refurbishment and relaunch.

The Warwick Street venue will undergo the major makeover this January "designed to strengthen its role as a true community sports pub".

The Copper Pot was taken over in March 2025 by Gamechanger Group, led by father-and-son duo Matthew Cummings-Coules and Clive Coules.

Since acquiring the town centre venue, the family-run business has worked to transition the pub from a managed chain operation into a fully independent, locally focused venue — prioritising atmosphere, accessibility, and community connection.

In recent months, the pub has gained growing social media attention for its "Finders Keepers" community scavenger hunt.

The initiative sees prizes hidden around Leamington Spa, with clues shared via Instagram reels.

On Boxing Day, one lucky local won £50 in cash, helping to build both online engagement and real-world community interaction.

Now, the team is taking the next step.

On Saturday 10 January, The Copper Pot will temporarily close for a significant refurbishment.

The investment will include the installation of large-format HD screens, a fully integrated sound system for live sports commentary, and a refreshed interior aimed at elevating the match-day experience.

A brand-new menu will also launch, featuring British pub classics alongside relaxed bar bites — ideal for sharing during the closing moments of a tight game.

"We're a small, independent business, and this refurbishment is about reinvesting into a pub that means a lot to the local community," said Matthew Cummings-Coules.

"We want The Copper Pot to feel like everyone's local — whether you're here for the football, a quick pint, or a long catch-up with friends."

The Copper Pot will reopen with a Soft Launch on Friday 16 January, followed by a Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday 24 January.

The launch event will feature live music from local favourites WildFlower Whisky, prize giveaways throughout the day, and a few surprise moments yet to be revealed.

Gamechanger Group currently operates four independent venues across the region, each with a distinct identity but a shared focus on community-led hospitality.

These include The Wine Vaults, a town-centre pub known for championing local live music; The Chatsworth, a neighbourhood gastro pub serving British comfort food alongside live sport; and Also Known As, a grassroots music venue that has hosted emerging artists such as MNEK, Jess Glynne and The 1975, as well as more intimate performances including a recent 'Friday Secret Show' from Cruz Beckham.

With the refurbishment of The Copper Pot, the group hopes to continue building strong community ties in Leamington Spa while establishing the venue as a welcoming, independent home for live sport.
