Leamington funeral directors to house modern flats

Plans to convert part of a Leamington Spa funeral director's into residential accommodation have been given the green light.
Warwick District Council (WDC) has approved an application from H.J. Dawson Funeral Directors to transform the vacant first floor and a portion of the ground floor at its George Street premises into three one-bedroom flats.
The proposed development includes minor external alterations.
According to the planning documents: "Each of the three one-bedroom flats will be designed to provide comfortable and functional living spaces.
"The layout will ensure adequate natural light and ventilation for all units."
The conversion aims to deliver "much-needed residential accommodation in the area" while "respecting the existing structure and providing modern, comfortable living spaces."
The new homes will also have shared access to a central courtyard, which will include storage space for bins and bicycles.
The application received no objections from key parties, including Royal Leamington Spa Town Council, WDC Environmental Health, WDC Conservation, or WDC Waste Management (subject to conditions).
WDC approved the scheme on 21 July concluding: "The proposal will introduce benefits in the form of the creation of three new units in a sustainable location.
"When considering the scheme as a whole within the tilted balance, Officers consider that the proposal will represent a sustainable form of development, and no adverse impacts will significantly or demonstrably outweigh the benefits."
The full plans can be viewed on Warwick District Council's planning portal.
