Leamington fashion pop-up celebrates first anniversary and combating fast fashion waste
By Nyasha Dombojena 29th Apr 2026
A clothing popup is being held in Leamington to celebrate the first anniversary of a local business owner's stall.
Kellie Croasdell Hayles, owner of Claro Preloved, is the event at Hart & Co in Leamington on 10 May from 4pm to 7pm.
The free to attend pop-up will also feature music and drinks for attendees as it celebrates a Kellie's successful first year.
Starting off on Vinted, a second-hand item marketplace, Hayles quickly realised that she could help the environment more by selling clothes in person.
She opened her stall, and has gone from strength to strength
She started her shop to prove to Leamington locals that buying second-hand clothing can be just as good as, if not better than, buying fast fashion, a business model that focuses on selling high volumes of low-quality clothing for cheap prices.
She says, by slowing down overconsumption in retail stores, the community can aid the planet and still look fashionable at the same time.
Kellie said: "The biggest thing with pre-love second-hand, [is that] it allows you to find your unique style without being part of the overconsumption or buying into trends. It can encourage upcycling.
If we look hard enough, what we want is already out there. We don't need to keep overbuying.".
There's a current movement of online users, the majority being Gen Z, looking for more sustainable ways to buy their fashion items and steering further away from fashion. It goes hand in hand with overconsumption, leading to a lot of fashion items ending up in the back of people's closets and forgotten about, or in landfill.
Fast fashion has a strong carbon footprint, being responsible for about 10% of global carbon emissions. A lot of items made under this business model also come from crude oil and can take up to 200 years to degrade into the earth.
By shopping second-hand or buying more sustainable clothing, you are actively reducing demand for new production, diverting textile waste from landfills, and lowering your carbon footprint.
