Passengers using Leamington Spa Railway Station are being warned of major disruption this weekend, as strike action by members of the TSSA union affects West Midlands Railway services.

A significantly reduced timetable will operate on Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July, with all routes via Birmingham Snow Hill suspended on both days.

No trains will run on the Nuneaton to Leamington Spa route.

The industrial action is part of an ongoing dispute over rest day working payments.

Rail union TSSA says its members have not been offered the same agreement available to workers represented by other unions.

On Friday, West Midlands Railway will only be operating three routes.

No trains will run after around 7pm, with many final departures leaving significantly earlier.

Alongside all routes via Birmingham Snow Hill, there will also be no services on the Camp Hill line, Nuneaton to Leamington Spa route, Birmingham New Street to Hereford route, or Birmingham New Street to Shrewsbury route on either strike day.

Chiltern Railway routes are expected to be running as normal.

TSSA general secretary Maryam Eslamdoust said: "These strikes will go ahead as planned because our members have not been given parity with those in other unions – a perfectly reasonable demand.

"The last round of industrial action caused a significant impact to services and the same will happen this time around."

She added: "Of course, as ever our union only takes strike action as a last resort, so we hope that our demands can be met in coming days to avoid any more disruption."

West Midlands Railway is advising customers to check journey planners before travelling.

Tickets dated 10 or 11 July can be used instead on services running on 9 or 12 July, while passengers whose trains are cancelled will be entitled to a full refund.

Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said: "We are disappointed TSSA has called further unnecessary strike action which is set to cause significant disruption for our customers. We are working hard to reach a resolution to this dispute and urge TSSA to continue talks.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause our customers and are doing everything we can to minimise the impact as much as possible.

"If the strike action does go ahead, we will be running a significantly reduced timetable on both dates. Customers are advised to check before they travel by visiting journey planners and our website."
