George Finch confirms bid to lead borough council alongside county
By James Smith 13th May 2026
Cllr George Finch has confirmed he hopes to lead Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC) alongside his role at Shire Hall.
The Reform UK councillor was voted onto the borough council last week and was yesterday (May 12) confirmed as leader of the Reform UK group there.
He and his deputy Cllr Mike Bannister - also a Warwickshire County Council member - confirmed they intend to propose a minority Reform administration at NBBC.
Cllr Finch said in a statement: "Having received the backing of my group on NBBC, the next step is to put forward my proposal for Reform to govern as a minority administration.
"Once this proposal is accepted at full council later this month, we will start delivering real, noticeable change for the people of Nuneaton and Bedworth – something Labour have had no interest in doing for decades.
"The future is bright for NBBC under Reform."
Reform has 15 seats at NBBC, making it the largest party but without a majority.
Labour are the second biggest with 11, followed by the Conservatives (nine) and Greens (three).
Cllr Finch run uncontested to be the NBBC Reform group leader.
Cllr Bannister is the portfolio holder for customer and localities on the county council.
